Father's Day - A Bite Behind Bars
Dads are hard to buy for, so make it easy on yourself this Father’s Day. A Bite Behind Bars will lure dad in with a picnic lunch that only prisoners could dream of, before a guided tour of the Maitland Gaol site.
Beginning at 12.00pm with a picnic lunch on the exercise field, you will enjoy a delicious array of items which include freshly made sandwiches, wraps, sliced fruit and sweets for you to enjoy with the whole family.
Following lunch at 1.00pm, visitors will meet their tour guide, where they will embark on a guided tour around the full site of the Gaol. Visitors will learn about the history of Maitland Gaol and some of the stories and tales of what life was like behind bars.
Maitland Gaol closed its gates as an operating correctional facility in January 1998 giving the Gaol a history that spanned 150 years. Inside the massive sandstone facade, the walls and cells tell the stories of crime, prison life, escape, survival and in some instances death.
