A Date with the Hangman

A Date with the Hangman

Overview

Get up close and personal with the hangman and his gruesome profession on a special Date with the Hangman at Maitland Gaol.

Start the night with a tour “Hurled into Eternity”, which will visit the condemned man’s cell and the gallows locations to hear the harrowing tales of the ultimate punishment at Maitland Gaol. What were the crimes of the condemned? How did they spend their final moments?
This special tour draws on the actual descriptions of several hangings as reported at the time.

The tour will be followed by an audio visual presentation The Uncommon Hangman presented by historian and author Dr Rachel Franks. Who was Robert ‘Nosey Bob’ Howard? How did he go from society buggy driver to become NSW longest serving executioner? Hear his story and about the research undertaken by Dr Franks in the imposing three tiered cellblock B Wing.

Interested in adding a ghostly twist to the evening? The VIP package is for you!

A paranormal investigation titled “Connecting with the Condemned” will be lead by multi award winning paranormal investigators Renata Daniel and Anne Rzechowicz. VIP ticket holders will try to reach back through the veil to connect with those who died at the end of the hangman’s rope in Maitland Gaol. Guests will use paranormal investigative technologies and methods at the locations where the 16 men were dropped through the trapdoor into eternity.

Please note.
