Savvas Cell
In addition to the refurbishment of several areas around the site, some of our most recent Work for the Dole Activities have also assisted in the creation of Maitland Gaol’s most recent interpretative space, the Savvas Cell. Cell no 4 in 5-Wing has been recreated so that it reflects the space Savvas’ body was found in. The cell next door, no 5, displays some of the items used during the inquest and contains information and news footage from the death being reported. This part of Maitland Gaol’s history is of great interest to people and we hope that this adds to their experience whilst touring the site.
