Captured: Portraits of Crime 1870-1930

Exhibited at Maitland Gaol from December 18 2017 until February 23 2018. Entry to the exhibition is included as part of the standard entry charges to the site.

The exhibition is travelling from State Archives and Records New South Wales and explores the stories of men, women and children incarcerated in NSW gaols between 1870 & 1930. Research within and beyond the State Archives records has bought to life stories of those long forgotten. Each case study gives visitors a unique opportunity to stare into the face of a criminal from the past and learn about their journey to prison and conditions whilst incarcerated.

The travelling exhibition is a small component of the larger exhibition displayed at the NSW State Archives office. For additional information relating to specific prisoners please check out the e catalogue
