Unlock the gates of Maitland Gaol today, where visitors are invited to 'serve time' learning about the facility, past prisoners and daring escapes. A key anchor attraction of the Hunter, Maitland Gaol housed some of Australia's most hardened and notorious criminals and has a vibrant history spanning more than 150 years.
For the first time in it's history, Maitland Gaol is offering members of the public the opportunity to experience a self guided audio tour at night for a limited time.
The Gaol will be open from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, with last entry at 8:30pm on four Fridays - 27 May, 24 June, 22 July and 26 August.
Visitors to Maitland Gaol can experience the site by a self guided audio tour or one of the themed public tours. The self guided audio tours are available seven days a week during opening hours, and public guided tours are readily available on the weekends. The tours take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Bookings are essential for guided tours.
You can now tour Maitland Gaol using your own smart phone or tablet with the izi.TRAVEL app. Download the free app and use the inbuilt QR reader to scan the unique gaol QR code to access the Maitland Gaol Revealed self guided audio tour on your device. The audio tour can be downloaded in advance or alternatively onsite using the free Wi-Fi available at the gaol.
