AMCAT's new Museum Display now open at Maitland Gaol

After decades of public interest in the collection of Mrs Nell Pyle, OAM, the Australian Museum of Clothing and Textiles was incorporated in April 2005. Her personal collection has provided the foundation for our growing archive. The museum has been functioning in a limited capacity in the Infirmary inside the walls of the old Maitland Goal. It has been our greatest wish to have the museum open to the public on a regular basis.

Thanks to a lot of hard work from our team of dedicated volunteers and support from the community we will make this dream a reality this year.

AMCAT wishes to announce the monumental move and opening of our new museum space in the Lieutenant Governor’s Residence Building at Maitland Gaol.

The museum is now open to the public, operating 3 days a week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. We are able to offer tour groups by arrangement.

The new museum space will allow AMCAT to present a variety of exhibitions, displays and special events in a beautiful period building. Educational programs are currently underway aimed at Textile students and community groups.
