Unlock the gates of Maitland Gaol today, where visitors are invited to 'serve time' learning about the facility, past prisoners and daring escapes. A key anchor attraction of the Hunter, Maitland Gaol housed some of Australia's most hardened and notorious criminals and has a vibrant history spanning more than 150 years.

Annual Activities Program 2018

Maitland Gaol offers a number of fun activities throughout the year suitable for all ages. The 2018 activities program details a few of the available activities including the annual Bitter & Twisted Boutique Beer Festival, special activities on Friday the 13th, school holiday programs and a full year of exhibitions. 20 Years On

On the 29 January 1998 Maitland Gaol closed its gates to New South Wales prisoners for the last time. To commemorate this occasion a series of activities are planned throughout December 2017, January and February 2018.

School holidays

Maitland Gaol offers a range of activities available during each school holiday period. These activities are generally perfect for family outings as there are great things for children to do and get involved in. Special guided tours, additional tours and special activities are often available as well as special pricing and packages implemented especially for holiday periods.
