Unlock the gates of Maitland Gaol today, where visitors are invited to 'serve time' learning about the facility, past prisoners and daring escapes. A key anchor attraction of the Hunter, Maitland Gaol housed some of Australia's most hardened and notorious criminals and has a vibrant history spanning more than 150 years.
Visitors to Maitland Gaol can experience the site by a self guided audio tour or one of the themed public tours. The self guided audio tours are available seven days a week during opening hours, and public guided tours are readily available on the weekends. The tours take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Bookings are essential for guided tours.

Food and food production has always been an important part of gaol life. Unlock the new exhibition, Food and Food Production, to learn more about how the Gaol's garden and the fresh produce grown there contributed to what the prisoners in NSW ate during 1870 - 1975. The exhibition is now on display at Maitland Gaol until April 2016.
